The Openings Art Space is pleased to present A Collection of Spirit: Drawings by Marcus Spearman.

Marcus Spearman is a self -taught artist born in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

This exhibition brings together a collection of Spearman’s drawings spanning several years. These engaging works, executed in colored pencil, watercolor, and oil pastel, exude a vivid directness as they address themes of recovery and redemption.

Robert Aitchison, curator of the exhibition, was introduced to Spearman’s art while working together at the Institute for Community Living (ICL) Empower Clubhouse in the East New York section of Brooklyn.

This will be Spearman’s first solo exhibition in New York City. He has previously exhibited his artwork in group shows at the ICL Empower Clubhouse in Brooklyn, and at the Gallery at HAI, in Manhattan.

There will be a reception for the artist on Thursday, December 17, 2009, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Hours: Monday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
